Datha Wyline (Grogan) McFry went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2023 surrounded by
loved ones in Shannon, GA at the age of 87.
Wyline was born September 10, 1935 to the late Odis Leon and Datha Ozella Grogan in Rome,
GA. She married, Burl McFry, her middle school sweetheart on August 10, 1951 and together
they had two sons, seven grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren. Burl and his brother,
Norris, built their home in Shannon, GA on family land where they lived for over 70 years. They
enjoyed gardening and sharing their harvest with neighbors and church members, motorcycle
rides and camping in North Georgia and Tennessee, and attending engine and craft shows where
Wyline sold a variety of baked good and crafts including fried pies, cakes, quilts, purses, and
dolls. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her own clothes as well as clothes
for her husband and boys. She enjoyed making all the new grandchildren and great grandchildren
their own special blanket when they were born.
Wyline was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. She was a faithful member of Antioch
Baptist Church for many years where she taught children’s Sunday School Class and was active
in several church events and fundraisers. In her youth, she worked in the textile industry for
many years and later cared for her grandchildren for several years. In her free time, she
volunteered at nursing homes, styling residents’ hair and often took meals to friends and church
members in need. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a devoted and loving wife,
mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Wyline is survived by her husband, Burl McFry, Jr. (Rome, GA), sons Gerald McFry (Rome,
GA) and Bobby McFry (Calhoun, GA), and siblings Magdalene LeMaster (Rome, GA), Odis
Grogan (Trion, GA), and Alvin Grogan (Trion, GA). She is preceded in death by her parents and
brothers J.C. Grogan (Trion, GA) and Gene Grogan (Trion, GA).
