W. Barbara Chandler Cleveland, a loving, caring and understanding wife and Mother, age 79, of #354 Rush Chapel Road, Adairsville, (Shannon Community) died Saturday morning, July 4th, 2009 at a local hospital.
A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Mrs. Cleveland was born on September 3rd, 1929, the daughter of the late Sumner L. and M. Magrolia Crumley Chandler. She had spent the great part of her life in Floyd County and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement she was associated with Berry College in the Payroll Department. Mrs. Cleveland was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Chief Joseph L. "Joe' Cleveland on April 12th, 2005 who served as the Chief of the Rome City Police Department, to whom she was married on April 13th, 1951. She was also preceded in death by a brother, R. Lee Chandler.
Survivors include a son, Michael L. Cleveland (Vicki), 2 daughters, Janet L. Cleveland (Jerry Casey) and Barbara Anne Blankenship (Danny) all of Rome; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer L. (Clayton) Cantrell (Joseph) of Newnan, Georgia, Candace E. Clayton, Kristi Y. Kelley, Joey Cleveland (Tiffany), Cara A. Blankenship, Jacob D. Blankenship, Lucas A. Blankenship and Nicholas A. Blankenship all of Rome; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 brother, James D. Chandler of Thomasville, Georgia. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, a very special niece, Judy Chandler Ackerman, who took such wonderful care of our mother and special law enforcement family also survive.
Funeral services for W. Barbara Chandler Cleveland will be held on Tuesday morning, July 7th, 2009 at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Ragland officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cleveland will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Ronald Jackson, Doug Crumbly, and 4 grandsons, Joey Cleveland, Jacob, Lucas, and Nick Blankenship. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers, Randy Michael, Red Cleveland, Mickey Cleveland and Doug Williams.
