Willie Mae Beard

Mrs. Willie Mae Beard, age 88, of #13 Brookwood Court, Rome died Saturday morning, February 28th, 2009 at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Beard was born on August 8th, 1920, the daughter of the late Benjamin B. and Bertha Estell Belk Nichols. She had spent most of her life in Rome and was a member of the Rome New Life Church of God. For a period of time Mrs. Beard was associated with Celanese and prior to her retirement she was associated with Parrish Bakery. Mrs. Beard was married on January 15th, 1936 to William Gilbert Beard who preceded her in death on November 30th, 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Annette Hulsey of Rome; a son, Douglas E. Beard of Rome; 2 grandchildren, Michael Douglas Hulsey and Douglas Eugene Beard, Jr. 1 great-granddaughter, Justice Darby Hulsey also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Mae Beard will be held on Tuesday afternoon, March 3rd, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Sean Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Ed Van Meter, Malcolm Hunter, Wayne Green, M.J. Bishop, James Boggs and Gary Oaks.
Mrs. Beard will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 noon until 2 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the daughter at #66 Lyons Drive, Apt. C-1, Rome.
