William Harold Mathis, age 95, of #1077 Youngs Mill Road, Kingston, died Monday morning, October 1st, 2007 at a local hospital.
A native of Bartow County, Mr. Mathis was born on July 30th, 1912, the son of the late Willie B. and Odessa White Holt Mathis. He had spent the greater part of his life in Bartow County and was a member of the Mizpah United Methodist Church of Rome. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Mathis was associated with Brighton Mills in Shannon for 42 years. Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by 1 brother, Bernard Mathis and 3 sisters, Mildred Carver, Lois Mathis and Elease Taylor. Mr. Mathis was married in 1935 to Fannie Lou Byars Mathis who preceded him in death on June 24th, 2007.
Survivors include a son, Harold Clayton Mathis; 2 grandsons, Jeff and Jon Mathis of Rome; 1 granddaughter, Jane Mathis of Cartersville, Ga.; a great-grandson, Austin Mathis of Glencoe, KY. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for William Harold Mathis will be held on Friday afternoon, October 5th, 2007 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Winstead and Rev. Roger Canuel officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Mizpah United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Joel Graves, Jim Armstrong, Wendell Fincher, Melvin Grogan, Jarrell Cagle, and Danny Drummond.
Mr. Mathis will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Friday from 12 noon until 2 o'clock.
