William "Bill" Gerrin, age 82, of Sike Story Road, Armuchee, GA. passed away early Thursday morning, August 11th, 2011 in a Rome hospital.
A native of Habersham County, Georgia, Mr. Gerrin was born on November 24th, 1928, the son of the late Thomas Jackson "Tom" Gerrin and the late Roxie Ann Irvin Gerrin. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Gerrin was of the Baptist Faith and prior to his retirement was associated with S.I. Storey Lumber Company for 55 years. Mr. Gerrin loved his family and loved fishing. Mr. Gerrin was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers. He was married on March 10th, 1952 to Bessie Loraine "Betty" Barton Gerrin who preceded him in death on February 18th, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Scott Jenkins of Rome; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Elaine Gerrin of Rome and Jeff and Crystle Gerrin of Etowah, Tenn.; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Brooks, Will Gerrin, Christy Mullins and Michael Diggs.4 great-grandchildren also survive as do several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for William "Bill" Gerrin will be held on Sunday afternoon, August 14th, 2011 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Beech Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Mr. Gerrin will remain at Fred Talley's Parkivew Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Saturday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours the family will be at the home of a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Elaine Gerrin at # 18 Rosewood Road, Rome.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Richard White, Will Callan, Steve Ingram, Michael Diggs, Will Gerrin and Troy Mullins. Darrell Reed and Hal Storey will serve as honorary pallbearers.
