William D. "Bill" McAdams, age 75, of #3 Sproull Street, Rome, died Wednesday evening, January 2nd, 2008, at a local hospital.
A native of Beulah, Mississippi, Mr. McAdams was born on August 11th, 1932, the son of the late Ivy N. and Helen Brooks Lancaster McAdams. He had been a resident of Floyd County since 1963 moving here from Memphis, Tennessee and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. McAdams was a veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. McAdams graduated from Memphis State University earning his B.A. and M.A. majoring in English and German and received his Ph. D. in English Education-Communicative Arts. Mr. McAdams taught English, speech and drama at the Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama, Berry College at Mount Berry, GA., Floyd College in Rome and Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. He also taught at various public schools in Georgia for 10 years and coached football, soccer and track. He was a member of the National Education Association, Georgia Education Association and National Council of Teachers of English. He was a director and actor having acted in and directed many one act plays.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brannon McAdams to whom he was married in 1964, a son and daughter-in-law, Max and Kim McAdams of Rome; a daughter, Deborah Tanner of Missoula, Montana; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter also survive as do 2 sister, Helen and Cordie of Memphis, TN. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for William D. "Bill" McAdams will be held this (Saturday) morning, January 6th, 2008 at 11:30 from the graveside of Floyd Memory Gardens with the Rev. Edward E. Holsomback officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
Mr. McAdams will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Saturday) morning from 10 until 11 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the son and daughter-in-law, Max and Kim McAdams, at #370 Gaines Road, Rome (The Shannon Community).
