William A. "Billy" Johnson, Jr. age 74 of Rome, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2013 at a Rome hospital.
A native of Rome, Billy was born on January 4, 1939, the son of the late William A. Johnson, Sr. and the late Emmie Sparks Johnson. He had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and attended Rome High School. Billy was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and attended the New Antioch Baptist Church. He was a member of Callier Springs Country Club and was a well-known Rome automobile and real estate broker. Billy was preceded in death by a sister, Melba Whorton and by a brother, Harold Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wallace Johnson to whom he was married on June 1, 1962; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Sizemore and her husband, John Sizemore of Rome and Wendy Ledbetter of Rome; 2 sons, William "Tripp" Johnson, III of Rome and Matt Johnson of Rome; 7 grandchildren, Stephen Stinson and his wife, Megan Stinson, Will Stinson, Derek Sizemore, Drew Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Hannah Johnson and Landon Ledbetter; 2 great-grandchildren, Gabi Stinson and Zion Boykin also survive as do a sister, Marsha McKoy and her husband, Joe of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for William A. "Billy" Johnson, Jr. will be held this (Friday) afternoon, May 10, 2013 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Reverend Stephen Williams officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers and include, Frank Harp, Kenny Harp, Bill Whorton, Greg Whorton, Joe Whorton and Chip Johnson.
The family received friends on Thursday evening at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home. At other hours they will be at the residence.
