Wayne Collins Mattingly

Wayne Collins Mattingly, age 73, of #26 Nicklaus Drive, Rome, died October 18th, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Mr. Mattingly was born August 5th, 1935 in Webster County, Kentucky, son of the late Harold Liston Mattingly and Mary Collins Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly graduated from Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky in 1957. He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC in 1998. He enjoyed sports and was a Kentucky High School football referee for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and environmentalist enjoying hunting and fishing with his grandchildren.
Mr. Mattingly is survived by his wife of 50 years, Clara Ann Wilson Mattingly, daughter, Molly M. Yancey and husband, Dee of Rome, daughter, Melissa M. Breen of Rome; son, Mitchell Wayne Mattingly of Marion, Indiana; grandchildren, Harley, Jack and Mary Morgan Yancey, Charlie, Joe and Will Breen all of Rome; two sisters, Naona Ordway of Marion, KY and Jane Collins of Clay, KY.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, October 21st, 2008 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel. At other hours they will be at the residence.
On Wednesday Mr. Mattingly will be carried to the Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, Kentucky (270-664-2288) where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th, 2008 at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Clay, Kentucky where Mr. Mattingly was a life long member. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery where four generations of Mr. Mattingly's family have been laid to rest.
