Vernon G. "Sonny" Alexander, Sr., age 78, of #235 Nowak Road, Rome, died Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at his residence
A native of Heck Canyon, New Mexico, Mr. Alexander was born on July 13th, 1930, the son of the late Hiram and Jewel Bartlett Alexander. He had been a resident of Rome since 1972 moving here from Texas and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Alexander was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army and United States Navy. He was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion and was a self-employed contractor. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Alexander, Jr. in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Joyce Boord of Rome; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Koronka and her husband, Michael of Clermont, Fla., Sheryl Claus and her husband, Tom of Houston, TX., Letitia Kuhlman and her husband, David of Silver Creek and Missey Sartin and her husband, Chris of Rome; 3 step-daughters, Terri Walls, and her husband, Michael of Rome, Melinda Lively and her husband, Ladon of Summerville, GA. and Lisa McKinney of South Canaau, PA.; special friends, Paul and Sonya Sifen of Boca Raton, Fla., 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services for Vernon G. "Sonny" Alexander, Sr. will be private.
The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, January 10th, 2009 from 2 until 5 o'clock at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Missey and Chris Sartin, at #237 Ravenwood Drive, Rome (Edenfield Estates).
