Verlon Corbin, age 82, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021.
Mr. Corbin was born on June 20, 1939, in Franklin, North Carolina, son of the late J.L. and Sarah Corbin and was a loving husband to the late Patricia Corbin of Cartersville, Georgia and a loving father to his son, David Corbin of Rome, Georgia.
Mr. Corbin played football for the Robbinsville High Black Knights and spoke fondly of the life lessons he learned on and off the field while growing up in Robbinsville, North Carolina with his dear siblings. Mr. Corbin proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Korea in a mobile hospital where he was trained to be an X-Ray Technician, had numerous successful airplane jumps, and played on an Army exposition baseball team. Mr. Corbin used the medical and leadership skills he learned in the Army, serving faithfully at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, for his entire career, where he met his wife of 54 years and retired from the then newly-named Atlanta Medical Center.
Mr. Corbin enjoyed his yards and gardens throughout the years and faithfully maintained his wife’s flower beds after her passing. He was a firm believer in helping others and donated blood often. His blood donations are measured in gallons and have helped many.
Mr. Corbin is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Hale Corbin, his brother, Mick Corbin, sister, Audrey Carver, and treasured nephew, Michael Carver. Survivors include his son, David (Gretchen) Corbin of Rome, GA; granddaughters, Savannah and Elsa Quay Corbin of Rome, GA, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews in both his Corbin family and wife’s Hale family of Adairsville, Georgia, and the many friends he met among staff and residents at Brookdale Assisted Living and Winthrop Health and Rehabilitation.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at six p.m. on Monday, the 9th of August, 2021 in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home, Rome, Georgia with Rev. Britt Brown Madden, Jr. officiating. A private interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family 4-6pm Monday, prior to service time at Salmon Funeral Home.
