Valerie Lynn Benson

Mrs. Valerie Lynn Prater Benson, age 50, of 64 Deland Road, Kingston, died Monday afternoon, November 20th, 2006, at her residence.
A native of Floyd County, Valerie was born on February 7th, 1956, the daughter of Richard M. Prater and the late Annie Ruth Duke Prater. She had spent her entire life in Floyd County and was a member of the Dykes Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of the W.M.U. Valerie was a 1975 graduate of Model High School and attended Coosa Valley Technical College. She was preceded in death by her Mother on May 10th, 2000. For several years, Valerie worked in the medical field. Valerie's pride and joy was her little dog, Capi.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Benson to whom she was married on February 26th, 1994, her father, Richard M. Prater of Kingston; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Brad and Chrystial Prater and Mike and Donna Prater all of Rome. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Valerie Lynn Prater Benson will be held on Friday afternoon, November 24th, 2006 at 2 o'clock at the Dykes Creek Baptist with her brother, Rev. Brad Prater and the Rev. Mikel Garrett officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. Valerie will lie-in-state at the church on Friday afternoon from 1 o'clock until the funeral hour.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Bob Wilson, Bill Gooch, Bryan Shealy, Jerome Poole, Danny Dew, Darrell and Larry Fincher and Leslie Sexton.
Valerie will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening, November 22nd, 2006, from 6 o'clock until 9 o'clock. At other hours the family will at the home of a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Donna Prater, 3661 Kingston Hwy.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1825 Barrett Lakes Blvd., Suite 280, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144.
