Thomas R. "Tom" King, age 80, of Margo Trail, S.E., Rome, died early Saturday morning, July 14th, 2007 at a local hospital.
A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, Mr. King was born on June 10th, 1927, the son of the late Henry A. and Bessie Reece King. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a member of Rome Church of Christ. Mr. King was a graduate of Armuchee High School, a Korean Veteran, having served in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1946, then served in the United Sates Army from 1947 until 1951. Mr. King served with the City of Rome Police Department for 10 years as a patrolman and detective, served as an investigator for the District Attorney's office and retired from the State of Georgia Department of Corrections. He was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association. Mr. King was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mr. King was married on November 13th, 1954 to Elene Virginia Duvall King who preceded him in death in July 1996.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Bob Hunt of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Diane King of Chattooga County, GA.; 3 grandsons, 6 great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Thomas R. "Tom" King will be held on Monday afternoon, July 16th, 2007, at 1 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Minister Brooks Boyd and Elder Don Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Floyd Memory Gardens.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Mike Russell, Larry Meeks, Rob Baxter, Fred Talley, John Baird, Doug Jones and Jason Marion. Past and present members of the Rome City Police Department are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home on Monday afternoon by 12:30.
Mr. King will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Church of Christ, 121 Primrose Road S.E., Rome, Georgia 30161.
