Thomas Othie Payne, age 87, passed away February 6, 2024, in Rome, GA. He was born on May 20, 1936, in Carrollton GA. Thomas was known for his warm and loving personality.
Throughout his life, Thomas worked in many different roles at Hickory Log Personal Care Home and found joy in each one. His strong work ethic and positive attitude made him a valuable asset to the community there. He was admired for his enthusiasm and commitment to every task he took on. Thomas had a passion for sports and spending time with his family. He could often be found cheering on his favorite teams or enjoying quality moments with loved ones. Additionally, he found solace in nature through activities such as fishing and camping. One of Thomas's proudest accomplishments was winning several medals in the Special Olympics. At the remarkable age of 80, he even triumphed in a bowling tournament. His determination and skill were truly inspiring to all who knew him. Furthermore, Thomas had the honor of throwing out one of the first pitches at an Atlanta Braves game—an experience that brought him great joy and pride.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Othie Esther Payne and Estelle Hendrix Payne, as well as his dear brother William 'Billy' Payne. He leaves behind cherished memories for his surviving family members: sister, Rita Payne of Decula, GA; sister, Sandra MacMahon of Marietta, GA; sister, Dianne Winters of Marietta, GA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Thomas Othie Payne will be remembered for his unwavering love for others and the positivity he radiated every day. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his genuine kindness and infectious smile. Salmon Funeral Home is honored to serve the Payne family.
