Terry Garrard Williams, age 65 of #130 Timber Falls Trail, Ellijay, Georgia and a former resident of Rome, Georgia, died early Tuesday morning, September 15th, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Georgia.
A native of Floyd County, Ga., Mr. Williams was born on November 24th, 1943, the son of the late Marshall S. and Mildred Louise Chamblee Williams. He spent the early years of his life in Rome where he attended East Rome High School until 1961 at which time he entered the United States Navy having been honorably discharged on November 23rd, 1964, having served on the Aircraft Carrier, U.S.S. Enterprise. For a period of time Mr. Williams served with the department of the Air Force at Dobbin's Air Force base in Marietta, Ga. where he achieved top security clearance. He worked with the Georgia Institute of Technology/Georgia Tech Police and served with the city of Smyrna Fire Department (firefighter) for 6 years. Mr. Williams worked with the State of Georgia Department of Transit from 1971 until May 1973. Mr. Williams was associated with Battey Machiney of Rome from 1967 until April 1969 and with General Electric of Rome from 1964 until February 1967. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Williams was a self-employed general contractor. He had been a resident of Ellijay for 3 years moving there from Florida. Mr. Williams attended the First Baptist Church in Ellijay and was a Mason and Shriner, being a member of Yaarah Shrine Temple of Atlanta and was a member of Apple Country Car Club.
Survivors include his wife, Linda F. Watkins Williams to whom he was married on December 23rd, 1989 of Ellijay; 2 daughters, Sandra W. Moss (David) and Amy N. Williams both of Marietta, GA.;2 grandchildren, Kaylan and Garrett Moss, 1 sister, Margaret Fincher (David) of Rome. 1 niece, Lindsey Fincher and 2 nephews Chris and Brian Fincher also survive.
Funeral services for Terry Garrard Williams will be held this (Friday) afternoon, September 18th, 2009 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Dr. David Drake and the Rev. Charles Lively officiating with interment to follow in Floyd Memory Gardens, Rome, with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. Mr. Williams will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends today (Friday) from 12 noon until 2 o'clock at the funeral home.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Chris Fincher, Brian Fincher, Ron Wheeler, Johnny Hann, Jim Southerland, Lew Shealy, Chad Chapman and Joe Waldrop. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers, Dave Johnston and Johnny Chapman.
