Shirley Chapman Hardin, age 78, of # 3 Gregory Drive, West Rome, passed away on Monday morning, August 26, 2013 at her residence.
A native of Floyd County, Shirley was born on July 29, 1935 the daughter the late Leonard and Annie Busby Chapman. Shirley was a life long resident of Rome and was a graduate of Coosa High School. Shirley was a very active member of Pisgah Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sherry Perry Sunday School Class. Shirley had been associated with Floyd Medical Center and Rome Radiology Group for more than 55 years. Shirley was a member of the Rome Rubies Red Hat Society. Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Konya Hardin Washington in 1984, by a sister, Eloise Drummond, by a brother, Billy Chapman and a niece, Myra Benton. Shirley was married on July 29, 1954, to Mark Hardin who preceded her in death on March 16, 2006.
Survivors include 2 nieces, Darlene Young of Rome and Alma West of Brooks, Georgia. Great nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Shirley Chapman Hardin will be held on Wednesday afternoon, August 28, 2013, at 1 o'clock in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Dudley officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Shirley will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening beginning at 5 o'clock pm. At other hours they will be at the residence.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Big Charlie and Little Charlie Young, Ryan Tippens, Brian McNiece, Will McNiece and Dustin West. All Physicians and employees both active and retired of Rome Radiology Group and Rome Imaging are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Active and honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon by 12:30 p.m.
