Mrs. Sherry Freeman Bohannon, age 78, of Rome, passed away on Friday morning, October 20, 2017.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Sherry was born on December 15, 1938, the daughter of the John Howell Freeman and Hazel Mae Baldwin Freeman. She was a 1956 graduate of Rome High School. Sherry retired from the United States Postal Service of Rome after 35 years of service. She loved to travel, enjoyed sports and was an avid Atlanta Falcons fan. Sherry was a member of the Callier Springs Country Club and Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1970 by her husband, Billy Mance Bohannon, whom she married in 1957.
Sherry is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Hal and Deborah Bohannon of Kingston, GA, and Jeff and Karen Bohannon of Rome; six grandchildren, Rebekah Bohannon, Bo Bohannon and his wife Autumn, Jessica Bohannon, Kacey Roberson and her husband, Ethan, Julie Bohannon and Stephen Bohannon; two great-grandchildren, Lily Belle Bohannon and Briar Mance Roberson; one sister, Bobbie Cameron; brother, and sister-in-law, Larry and Charlene Freeman. Also surviving is Sherrys best friend, Jane Brock, with whom she was inseparable, enjoying sports, traveling and bowling together.
Funeral services for Sherry will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 24, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Mikel Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the Salmon Funeral Home Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 12 noon and include Bo Bohannon, Stephen Bohannon, Shaun Freeman, Steve Freeman, Junior Pitts, Mike Nelson, Barry Brumbelow, and Nic Kernes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions to honor Sherrys life be made to the Alzheimers Association, North Metro Regional Office, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA, 30346.
