Samuel Thomas Chapman

Samuel Thomas Chapman, age 76, of #1696 Floyd Springs Road, Armuchee, died early Tuesday morning, October 28th, 2008 at Winthrop Court Assisted Living Center of Rome.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Chapman was born on November 12th, 1931, the son of the late Fred Jasper and Mattie Barton Chapman. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Chapman was a member of the Floyd Springs United Methodist Church and prior to his retirement in 1992 was associated with General Electric of Rome for several years. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, A.W. Chapman and Lamar Chapman. Mr. Chapman was married on March 7th, 1953 to Betty Sue Giles Chapman who preceded him in death on March 26th, 2008.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Riley Carpenter of Adairsville, GA.; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Fred and Joanne Chapman of Rome and Glen Chapman of Rome; 2 grandchildren, Clay Carpenter and his wife Misty of Rome and Casey Chapman of Rome; 2 great-grandchildren, Will and Kiley Carpenter, 2 sisters, Mary Barton of Calhoun, GA. and Linda Poore of Kingston, GA. 2 sisters-in-law and their husbands, Betty Giles and her husband, Harley and Dreama Giles and her husband, Bill. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Samuel Thomas Chapman will be held on Thursday afternoon, October 30th, 2008 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Alexander and the Rev Jody Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers include, David, Steve and Barry Barton, Brian Poore and Mark Chapman.
Mr. Chapman will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence, 1696 Floyd Springs Road, Armuchee.
