Rymon Grant Thurston

November 11, 1926 — July 28, 2009

Rymon G. Thurston, age 82, of #1316 Turkey Mountain Road, Rome, (Armuchee Community) died Tuesday morning, July 28th, 2009 at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Thurston was born on November 11th, 1926, the son of the late Thomas R. and Sallie Ann Neal Thurston. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Thurston was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church in Shannon and prior to his retirement he was associated with General Electric for 20 years. Mr. Thurston was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Moses, on October 23rd, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, by 2 sisters and by a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Johnson Thurston to whom he was married on March 20th, 1947, a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ellis Terry of Rome; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Roy G. and Joanne Thurston of Marietta, GA., Tom and Jean Thurston of Rome and Merle and Donna Thurston of Subligna, GA.; 9 grandchildren, Dyvonnda Thurston, Daryl Terry, Dana Battle, Trisha Terry, Amy Thurston, Jeremy Moses, Anthony Thurston, Jenni Thurston and Josh Moses, and 4 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Dora Mae Trammell of Rome; 1 brother, Ralph Thurston of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Rymon G. Thurston will be held this (Thursday) morning, July 30th, 2009 at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward E. Holsomback and Rev. Tony Cargle officiating. Interment will follow in the Rome Midway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 o'clock at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.
Pallbearers include, Leon O'Neal, Harold Bray, Claude Kail, Dale Farmer, James Lowery, Andy Carroll and Edwin Bray.
Fred Talley and the staff of Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home is serving the family of Rymon G. Thurston.
