Ruth Lavinia Ray

Ruth Lavinia Ray, age 87, of Centre, Alabama passed away in a local nursing home after an extended illness on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Ruth was born on August 6, 1935, in Rome, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jud King Willerson and Christine Courtney Willerson; her late husbands, Lester Bobo, Billy Grogan and Willard Ernest Ray; a son, Reb Bobo; a brother, Gene Willerson; and a sister, Doris Padgett. She is survived by a loving family that she cherished. Survivors include her granddaughters, Savanah Bobo of Atlanta, GA; and Jasmine Hamilton of Rome, GA; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all.

Ruth was a retiree of Georgia Power where she enjoyed working for many years. She was a member of the Congregational Holiness Church, until she became unable to attend due to her health. Her Christian faith was the center of her life, and at the last count she had read the bible cover to cover nine times. Family and friends alike will attest to how sweet and good-natured she was, and that she was always a lovely stylish dresser, with manicured nails and her hair set at the beauty shop every week. She loved to cook, go to church, play bingo, and spend time with her family.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Salmon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service. There will be a private committal service at Floyd Memory Gardens.
