Rufus Ragsdale Bell

November 30, 1917 — January 27, 2007

Rufus R. "Sam" Bell, age 89, of 200 Third Street, Shannon, died Saturday evening, January 27th, 2007, at his residence.
A native of Cherokee County, Alabama, Mr. Bell was born on November 30th, 1917, the son of the late William L. and Delia Atkinson Bell. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Shannon. Mr. Bell was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion. He was a member of the Shannon Masonic Lodge #100 F&AM, where he had received his 50 year apron and prior to his retirement Mr. Bell was associated with Klopman Mills of Shannon. He was preceded in death by a son, William "Billy" Bell in 1956. Mr. Bell was married on November 11th, 1940 to Margie Milam Bell who preceded him in death in 1999.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Beverly Bell of Rome; a grandson and his wife, Michael and Kristi Bell of Rome; 1 great-grandson, Sam Bell. Brothers and sister-n-laws, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Bell will be held on Tuesday afternoon, January 30th, 2007, at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry McCoy and Rev. Billy Bell officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Jerry, Larry, and Tony Milam, Tommy Shiflett, Kevin McLaughin and Al Wrisley.
Mr. Bell will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the son and daughter-in-law, #1284 Bells Ferry Road, NE, Rome.
