Ruby L. Mitchell Bowen, age 89, of the Cedartown Highway, Rome died Friday evening, April 3rd, 2009 at the residence.
A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Bowen was born on November 9th, 1919, the daughter of the late Claude T. and Lindy Dempsey Mitchell. She had spent her entire life in Floyd County and was a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church, The Ladies Sunday School Class and taught Sunday School for several years. Mrs. Bowen loved her church, church music and sang in the Community Chapel Trio. Mrs. Bowen was associated with Redford's of Rome for a number of years. Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Clarence and Curtis Mitchell. She was married in October 1939 to Lewis Bowen who preceded her in death on February 11th, 1980.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Myra and (Mickey) Hunt of Rome; a son, Michael D. Bowen of Rome; 3 grandchildren, Gregg (Debbie) Dobbins of Rome, Susan (Scott) Payne of Rome and Shannon (Robert) Boatner of Cedartown; 6 great-grandchildren, Stephen and Aaron Dobbins, Cassie and Briana Boatner, Caleb and Noah Payne, a sister and brother-in-law, Edna (Melvin) Tolbert of Rome and a brother, and sister-in-law, Eugene (Jane) Mitchell of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Ruby L. Mitchell Bowen will be held on Wednesday afternoon, April 8th, 2009 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Tucker and the Rev. Tom Barfield officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of North View Cemetery in Cedartown.
Mrs. Bowen will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
The following will serve as pallbearers, Hugh and Tommy Mitchell, Sam Collier, Robert Boatner, Eugene Mitchell and Melvin Tolbert.
