R. Leonard Walters, age 62, of # 4 Robinson Avenue, Rome, died Friday morning, February 27th, 2009 at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Walters was born on April 15th, 1946, the son of Irene Young Walters and the late Robert P. Walters. He had spent his entire life in Rome, was of the Baptist faith and attended Lakeview Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement Mr. Walters was associated with Temple-Inland of Rome for 40 years.
Survivors include his mother, Irene Walters of Rome; 2 sisters, Evelyn Bragg and Sylvia Ozment and her husband, R.L. all of Rome; 3 nephews, Chris Bragg and his wife Cindy, Jeff Ozment and his wife, Sandra and Ken Ozment, 2 great nephews, Zack and Nash Bragg and 3 great-nieces, Taylor, Tory and Tatum Ozment. A special friend, Nancy Jones of Rome also survive.
Funeral services for R. Leonard Walters will be held on Monday afternoon, March 2nd, 2009 at 1 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeview Baptist Church Building Fund, #80 Salem Drive, Rome Georgia 30165.
Mr. Walters will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Chris Bragg, Jeff and Ken Ozment, Jake Simmons, Jerry Boyd and Winston Little.
