Robert Ira Hood

Robert Ira Hood, age 81, of #102 Cocker Drive, West Rome, died Thursday morning, May 31st, 2007, for injuries sustained in an automobile-truck accident in Polk County.
A native of Kingston, Ga., Mr. Hood was born on October 3rd, 1925, the son of the late George B. and Annie Sisson Hood. He had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Hood was a member and deacon of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Rome and a member of the Whosoever Sunday School Class. For many years Mr. Hood served with the Carpenters for Christ and went on many mission trips. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Hood was associated with Georgia Power for 40 years. Mr. Hood was married on November 21st, 1951 to Betty Jane Mathis Hood who survives.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hood, a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Andy Dawson of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Anita Hood of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 3 grandchildren, Daniel, Adam and Emily Hood, 2 sisters, Martha Millican and Nell Watson both of Rome; 1 brother, G.B. Hood of Kingston, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Hood will be held on Monday morning, June 4th, 2007, at 11 o'clock at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Claytor and Rev. Jason Stockton officiating with interment to follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hood will lie-in-state at the church on Monday morning fro 10 until 11 o'clock.
The following will serve as pallbearers, Daniel and Adam Hood, Tim Medlock, Hulyn Kite, J.P. Reid, Al Squires, Branch Bragg and Harry Moore.
Mr. Hood will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 314 Burnett Ferry Road, Rome, Ga. 30165.
