Robert Dolan Scoggins, age 63, of #312 Horseshoe Circle, Rockmart, Georgia passed away on Friday afternoon, June 3rd, 2011 at a Rome hospital.
A native of Gordon County, Georgia, Dolan was born on November 18th, 1947 the son of William Hoyt Scoggins and the late Jessie Mae Green Scoggins. He was a 1965 graduate of Johnson High School of Rome and was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Army. He had been a resident of Rockmart for the past 40 years moving there from Rome. Dolan was a member of the North Rome Church of God of Rome, where he was a member of the Howard Tyler Sunday School Class. Prior to his retirement Dolan was associated with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his mother in 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Diprima Scoggins to whom he was married on December 14th, 1966; a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Joey Cross of Rome; a son, Dolan Hoyt "Dobie" Scoggins of Rockmart; 2 grandchildren, Caroline and Charlie Cross; his father, Hoyt Scoggins of Rome; a brother and his wife, Ty and Linda Scoggins of Rome; a sister and her husband, Phebe and Danny Wilson of Rome; Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Robert Dolan Scoggins will be held this (Sunday) afternoon, June 5th, 2011 at 4 o'clock at the North Rome Church of God with Pastor Harold Jones officiating. Interment services will be private for the family at Morning View Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends at the North Rome Church of God this (Sunday) afternoon from 2 until 4 o'clock. At other hour they will be at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Joey Cross, #4 North Ivey Ridge Road, (Maplewood East), Rome.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Jimmy Lester, Benny Wood, J.R. Scoggins, Steve Bennett, Doyle Oliver, Howard Tyler, Chad Scoggins and Richie Scoggins.
