O. W. "Ham Bone" Pierce, age 88, of Cedartown, Georgia, and a former long time resident of Rome died early Tuesday morning, July 16th, 2007 in Cedartown.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Pierce was born on April 6th, 1919. He had spent his entire life in Rome and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Peace Officers Association and prior to his retirement served as a Rome City Police Officer. Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Wyley Pierce in 1990 and by a step-daughter, Teresa Carol Atkins in 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Maedell Forrister Pierce to whom he married in November 1991, a daughter and son-in-law, Edna Earle and Timothy Dryden of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 1 granddaughter, Katherine Dryden of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 3 step-daughters, Lynn Rolan of Severville, Tenn., Dawn Folson of Cedartown and Tracy Jones of Cedartown; 1 step-son, Terry Folsom of Cedartown. Step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Pierce will be held on Friday morning, July 20th, 2007, at 11 o'clock from the graveside of Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens with Police Chaplain officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Pierce will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
Members of the Rome City Police Department are asked to serve as active and honorary pallbearers.
