Opal Arlene Carden

Opal Arlene Carden, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023, at The Fountains of Calhoun. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Opal was born on November 23, 1928, in Plainville, GA to Fabian Durham and Eva Elizabeth Cowart Durham. She was preceded in death by her loving husband James O. Carden; her five brothers: Thermon Taylor, Doyle Taylor, Jesse Wilmer Taylor, Ronald Taylor, and Marvin Taylor; sister-in-laws, Jackie, Blanche, Nancy, Mildred, and Johnnie who were dear to her heart. as well as by her nephew Stanley Taylor; stepson and his wife, Gene and Ann Carden.

Throughout her life, Opal displayed a strong work ethic and dedication. She attended business college and later went on to work as an Executive Secretary for an admirable 29 years at Floyd Hospital in the Pathology Department. Her impeccable skills and warm personality made her an invaluable member of the hospital staff. Opal adored her family and friends. Her charismatic nature earned her the reputation of being both loving and fun. Those closest to her remember the joy she brought into their lives through her laughter and compassion. Opal's memory will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew her.

Opal leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted nieces: Susan Coley and her husband R.H., Brenda Wilson and her husband Jed, Sharman Czahor and her husband Tim, Joy Yeager and her husband Gary, Allison Owen and her husband Terrell, Terri Holcomb and her husband Noel, Pam Taylor; nephews, Chris Taylor and his wife Jeannie, Robin Taylor and his wife Joan; eleven great-nieces, nephews, as well as twelve great-great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. In addition to her immediate family, Opal is fondly remembered by stepchildren; Gary Carden and his wife Lynn, Carlton Carden and his wife Joy, Neva Carden Clark and her husband Jim. She was also blessed with nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren who brought joy into her life.

Services to honor Opal's life will take place at Salmon Funeral Home. On Saturday, September 9, 2023, there will be a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service in the Salmon Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM. Afterward, Opal will be laid to rest at Dodd Cemetery; Dodd Cemetery Road Southwest, Plainville, GA. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers: Chris Taylor, Tim Czahor, Craig Smith, Robin Taylor, Gary Yeager and Zane Holcomb. 


Opal Arlene Carden will forever be missed but never forgotten. Her impact on the lives she touched will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
