Novella Rush Shiflett, age 84, of #12 Sandy Beach Terrace, Rome, (Garden Lakes) died Thursday evening, September 16, 2010, at a local hospital.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Shiflett was born on March 5, 1926, the daughter of the late William Nathanel Rush and Ruth Helton Rush. For many years she was associated with Celanese Corporation. Mrs. Shiflett was a lifelong resident of Rome and Floyd County and a member of the Hill Crest Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas "Jack" Shiflett, on January 3, 2005, to whom she was married on May 20, 1946.
Mrs. Shiflett is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gerald Richerson of Marietta, GA; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill Shiflett, and Tommy and Pam Shiflett, all of Rome; five grandchildren, Jeff and Daniel Richerson, Matt Shiflett, Kristi Sport and Joe Shiflett; four great-grandchildren, Bella, Maddie, Jack and Sam Shiflett; two sisters, Gladys James and Martha Jo Baldwin, both of Rome. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Remembrance Service of Novella Rush Shiflett's life will be held on Monday afternoon, September 20th, 2010 at 1 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with her son, Tommy Shiflett, her grandson, Matt Shiflett, and her son-in-law, Gerald Richerson, officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.
Mrs. Shiflett will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday by 12:30 p.m. and include Dudley Rush, Hugh James, Billy Quarles, Stanley Sutton, Jeff Richerson, Benny Shiflett and Jerry Ely.
