Mrs. Kathryn Cook Pearce, age 85 of #906 North 5th Avenue, Rome, died Thursday afternoon, March 27th, 2008 at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mrs. Pearce was born on August 9th, 1922, the daughter of the late Macon George Cook and Gladys Owens Cook. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and was a member of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church and the Bessie Myrick Sunday School Class. For a period of time, Mrs. Pearce was associated with Celanese and Anchor Rome Mills and was a Beautician. Mrs. Pearce was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Cook, 2 sisters, Pauline Castleberry and Ruth Jaynes, by 2 daughters-in-law, Amy Pearce and Carol Pearce. She was married on September 2nd, 1939 to the Rev. Roland L. Pearce who preceded her in death on February 23rd, 1975.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Leonard of Rome; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Joyce Pearce of Chatsworth, GA. and Donnie and Jean Pearce of Rome; 7 grandchildren, Tony Leonard and his wife Lana, Tim Leonard and his wife, Jan, Melissa Langston and her husband Richard, Michele Roby, Mark Pearce and his wife Robin, Leslie Pearce and his wife, Carla, and Jason Pearce and his wife Kristin. 13 great-grandchildren also survive as do 3 sisters-in-law, Rose Key of Blue Ridge, GA., Willie Pearce of Dallas, GA. and Kiki Cook of Orlando, Fla. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kathryn Cook Pearce will be held on Sunday afternoon, March 30th, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with the Rev. Mac McCurry and her grandson, the Rev. Tony Leonard officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery. Jason Pearce will be in charge of the music.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tony and Tim Leonard, Leslie, Jason and Mark Pearce and Michael Freeman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bessie Myrick Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Kathryn Cook Pearce will be carried to the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 where the family will receive friends until the funeral hour.
