Namon Adams Wiseman

November 18, 1931 — January 4, 2014

Namon Adams Wiseman, age 82, affectionately known by many as "Coach" or "PawPaw", passed away on January 4th, 2014, with his family by his side.

Mr. Wiseman was born in Rome on November 18, 1931, son of the late George Dewey Wiseman and Lydia Adams Wiseman.

Mr. Wiseman graduated from Rome High School in 1952 and played for the Rome High Hilltoppers. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in health and education from the University of Georgia in 1959. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. He coached and taught for over 30 years. His first coaching job in Rome was as an assistant football coach at West Rome High School with Coach Paul Kennedy and Coach Nick Hyder. He then received his first head football coaching position at Armuchee High School. While at Model High School, he served as an assistant coach for the 1979 state championship team. He was honored by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association with a Distinguished Service Award for 31 years of dedicated service. He also taught Driver's Education for many years. After retirement he joined retired Coach Charlie Weatherford and Ted Touchstone to work as a painter. He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church and served as Church Chairman, Board of Stewards, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He also served as a trustee for Morrison Campground. Coach Wiseman was a great influence to many of his athletes and students. One former athlete tells that his work ethic and upstanding character set a good example for the entire football team. Over the years, many of his players have told family members that he was an inspiration to them. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Stansell Wiseman. Together they enjoyed watching all sports and loved watching their children and grandchildren play. He loved to fish and garden, loved reading and sharing the Sunday comics, loved his daily walks with his dog and was devoted to his Lord and Savior. He loved campmeeting at Morrison Campground and was a tentholder there for over 50 years. In his later years, he would spend afternoons swinging on the cabin porch and watching over the grounds.

He is survived by a son, Danny (Anne) Wiseman, three daughters, Vicki (Dan) Knight, Pam (Gayle) Fuller and Lisa (Wendell) Crowder all of Rome; twelve grandchildren, Andrea Wiseman of Rome, Bradley Wiseman of Cumming, Ashleigh (Keith) Aplis of Cumming, Neil Wiseman and Jacob Wiseman, both of Rome, Jordan (Ann) Knight and Vann Knight, both of Rome, Melissa Green of Flowery Branch, Alison (Matt) Watson of Rome, Ivy Nicholson of Rome, Brittany (Seth) Sorrells of Cedartown, and Bear (Caitlin) Crowder of Rome; six great grandchildren, Cooper and Collin Watson, Caroline, Wesley and Pace Knight and Sawyer Sorrells; one sister, Irene Gresham of Kingston.
