Muriel Neal Maxey, age 91, of #2894 Old Summerville Road, NE, Armuchee, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning, May 25th, 2011 at a Rome, Georgia hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Walker County, Georgia, Mrs. Maxey was born on May 14th, 1920, the daughter of the late Abraham P. and Myrtle Storey Neal. She was a graduate of West Armuchee High School and had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County, Georgia. Mrs. Maxey was a 61 year member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church where she was a member of the JOY Club and the TEL Sunday school class. For a period of time Mrs. Maxey was associated with Celanese of Rome, Dellingers of Rome and prior to her retirement was associated with Integrated Products of Rome. Mrs. Maxey was preceded in death by 1 sister and 2 brothers. She was married on December 20th, 1941 to W.H. "Jack" Maxey who preceded her in death on September 16th, 1996.
Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Patricia Maxey of Armuchee, Georgia and Perry and Beverly Maxey of Dacula, Georgia; 2 grandsons and their wives, Wesley and Julie Maxey of Dallas, Georgia and Darin and Jamie Maxey of Dacula, Georgia; 4 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Joshua, Alexis and Logan; 1 sister, Ezma "Tootsie" Pettyjohn of Rocky Face, Georgia; 2 brothers, James Neal and Windom Neal both of West Armuchee, Georgia. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Muriel Neal Maxey will be held on Friday afternoon, May 27th, 2011 at 2 o'clock at the New Armuchee Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Kelley and Rev. Edward E. Holsomback officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Maxey will lie-in-state at the church on Friday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock.
Mrs. Maxey will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Patricia Maxey at #51 Old Piney Road, Armuchee, Georgia.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Kevin Pettyjohn, Kyle Pettyjohn, Craig Henderson, Brian Neal, Lamar Neal and Trey Krouse. Members of the JOY Club and the TEL Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the church on Friday afternoon by 1:30.
