Monroe V. Tinsley, II, age 83, of #31 Conway Place, Rome, (Garden Lakes) died Sunday evening, September 16th, 2007, at the residence.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Tinsley was born on June 25th, 1924, the son of the late Monroe V. and Bertha Harrison Tinsley. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Tinsley was a member of the Armuchee Church of God and a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion. Prior to his retirement Mr. Tinsley was associated with United States Postal Service and for a period of time was associated with Wal-mart in Ashville, NC. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Tinsley in 1957, and by a granddaughter, Hope Meadors. Mr. Tinsley was married on August 14th, 1987 to Elizabeth Emily Farmer Tinsley, who preceded him in death on January 16th, 2002.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Debra Ann Coggins and Drusilla Jones both of Rome, Donna Grubbs of Florence, Kentucky and Diane Tinsley of Walton, Kentucky; 2 sons, Matthew Abel Tinsley of Silver Creek, Ga. and Monroe Tinsley, III of Tennessee City, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren survive as do a sister, Emma Frances Camp of Rome and a special friend, Virginia Duncan of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Monroe V. Tinsley, II will be held on Wednesday morning, September 19th, 2007 at 11 o'clock from the graveside of East View Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Izell officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites. For those attending the funeral services for Mr. Tinsley please meet at the graveside on Wednesday morning by 10:45 a.m.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
Mr. Tinsley will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 317 East 1st Avenue, Rome Georgia 30161.
