Mrs. Mildred P. Powell of #95 Pinson Road, Rome (the Shannon Community) died Friday evening, January 18th, 2008 at Fifth Avenue Health Care.
A native of Douglas, Wyoming, Mrs. Powell was the daughter of the late William and Anna Pflaeging. She had been a resident of Rome for 54 years, moving here from Washington, D.C. Mrs. Powell was a veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater where she was awarded 3 Bronze Stars and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having been Honorably discharged as a Captain after 10 years of service with the United States Army as a Nurse Anesthetist. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and prior to her retirement was associated with McCall, Floyd Medical Center and Redmond Regional Medical Center hospitals as a Nurse Anesthetist. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include her husband, Roy H. Powell and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred P. Powell will be held on Tuesday afternoon, January 22nd, 2008, at 1 o'clock from the graveside of East View Cemetery with Deacon Stuart Neslin and Dr. Billy Brown officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting graveside rites.
For those attending the services for Mrs. Powell please meet at the graveside by 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
