Michael Bureon Vann

July 18, 1939 — March 1, 2010

Michael B. "Mike" Vann, age 70, of Ridgehaven Drive, Rome, Ga. died early Monday morning, March 1st, 2010 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, Mike was born on July 18th, 1939, the son of the late George E. and Irene Mitchell Vann. He was a 1957 graduate of Cave Springs High School and attended Young Harris College and the University of Georgia. Mike served in the United States Army and was a Communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and prior to his retirement was co-owner of George Vann and Son Wholesale for 35 years. Following his retirement he was employed with the Floyd County Sheriff's Department and was Volunteer of the Year for the City of Rome in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Alexandra "Lexi" Vann to whom he was married on November 10th, 1977; 4 daughters, Barbara Barker of Silver Creek, GA., Ginger Popham and her husband, Brian of Cave Springs, GA., Deanna Boyd Gonzales of Rome and Candi Pledger and her husband, Randy of Cave Springs, GA.; 5 grandchildren, Stephen Boyd, Stephanie Boyd, Emily Popham, Wyatt Pledger and Marissa Gonzales; 1 brother, Eddie Vann and his wife, Cathy of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday morning, March 6th, 2010 at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Randy Mattox officiating. A reception will follow the Funeral Mass in the Parish Hall at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Knights of Columbus will serve as active and honorary pallbearers.

A Rosary Service for Mr. Vann will be held on Friday evening at 6 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. Following the Rosary service the family will receive friends at the funeral home until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
