Melvin Thacker

Melvin Thacker, age 78 of Rome lost his battle with cancer and went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 24, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents Georgia Mae and Marion Thacker and a sister Betty Jo Grizzard. Melvin was a US Army Veteran and was the President of Local 689 Celanese Union longer than anyone. Mr. Thacker loved his family first and foremost and especially his grandchildren.

Melvin is survived by his wife Frances Thacker; three daughters, Lisa Thacker, Lori (Chris) Evans, Julie Black; six grandchildren, Melissa Nichole Evans, Christopher Taylor Evans, Anna Frances Black, Rachael Analisa Evans, Lena Caroline Black, Will Black; five sisters, Kathleen Thacker, Evelyn Bridges, Lillian Maxwell, Rita (Skip) Mize, Vickie Lynn (Glenn) Nicholson; three brothers, Jimmy William Thacker, Clyde Benton (Ann) Thacker, Nathan Clinton (Gloria) Thacker.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
