Mr. Marvin Ernest Lingerfelt, age 82, of Rome, GA passed away on July 3, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd surrounded by his loving family. Marvin was born on April 15, 1942, in Chattanooga, TN.
Marvin's journey in life was marked by meaningful work and service. He excelled as a propane truck driver, earning the reputation of being the best in the business. Additionally, for 13 years, Marvin brought comfort to families during their difficult times while working at Fred Tally's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home.
An alumnus of McMinn County High School in Athens, TN, Marvin valued education and lifelong learning. Beyond his professional endeavors, he found joy in various hobbies such as fishing, hunting, and water skiing in his younger years. He had an outgoing personality and all who had the pleasure of knowing him truly loved him.
One of Marvin's proudest accomplishments was his musical talent. Singing and gospel music held a special place in his heart, stemming from a family tradition where multiple generations shared their voices in harmony. As a member of the Galilean's Gospel Group, Marvin's singing brought joy to many and left an indelible mark on those around him.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ernestine Chapman and Joseph Conley Lingerfelt; his son, Shawn White; his sister, Marlene Lingerfelt; and aunt, Elizabeth Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Faye Lingerfelt of Rome, GA. Additionally, he is survived by his daughters: Carmen Knox, and her husband Bill, Cheyenne Rogers and her husband Lance, Jackie Clonts, and her husband Charles, Lynn Murphy, Sissy White; his son, Terry White; grandchildren, Brandon White, Shae Hovers, Nicholas Hovers, Dustin Rogers, Keetra Murphy, Meredith Knox, Seth Murphy; great-grandchildren, Alexis White and Natalie Hovers; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends also survive
Funeral services for Marvin will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Pastor Barry McCullough, Robert Vines and Don Poindexter officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Marvin’s family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home Monday, July 8, 2024, from 1:30 until the service beings at 3:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Brandon White, Shea Hovers, Seth Murphy, Lance Rogers, Bill Knox and Alan Binkley. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church.
