Marie Knight

Marie Knight, age 94 of Rome, passed away on Thursday afternoon, October 10, 2013 at her residence.

A native of Goldville, Alabama, Mrs. Knight was born on September 17, 1919, the daughter of the late James Travis Gaines and the late Alma Pearl Russell Gaines. She was a 1938 graduate of Etowah County Alabama High School. She had spent the greater part of her life in Rome, and was a long time member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. She was active in Sunday School and was a member of the Happy Timers. Mrs. Knight also served on several church committees and the church council. She was a member of the Christian Business Women's Club, the Quota Club and the Pilot Club. For many years, Mrs. Knight was associated with the law firm of Matthews-Maddox-Walton & Smith, having retired as a legal secretary. She was preceded in death by a sister, Viva Hazel Gaines in 1917. Mrs. Knight was married on December 22, 1951 to Dr. James Edgar Knight who preceded her in death on February 17, 1972.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert G. Knight and his wife, Katrina, of Rome, and Larry E. Knight and his wife, Rhonda, of Fleming Island, FL; 5 grandchildren: Kelly Knight Rosamond and her husband, Chad, of Charlotte, NC, Ashley Knight Malec and her husband, Andrew, of Athens, GA, Emily Knight Watkins and her husband, Jacob, of Lawrenceville, GA, J.R. Knight and Zachary Knight both of Fleming Island, FL; 9 great-grandchildren also survive, as well as her sister, Virginia Gaines Corle and her husband, Rick, of Rochester Hills, MI. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Knight will be held this (Saturday) afternoon, October 12, 2013, at 2 o'clock in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Reverend Scott Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this (Saturday) afternoon at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel from 1 until 2 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Katrina Knight, 503 Mt. Alto Road, Rome, Georgia.

The following will serve as active pallbearers: Chad Rosamond, Andrew Malec, Jacob Watkins, Roby Hammond, Richard Shaw, and Shaun Odom.
