Margaret Evelyn Carver

Mrs. Margaret Evelyn Carver, age 90, of Rome, GA, died Saturday morning, January 25, 2014, at Floyd Medical Center after a short illness.

Mrs. Carver was born in Bartow County, February 2, 1923, daughter of the late Jesse and Azzie Lanham Taylor and lived in Rome and Floyd County most of her life. Mrs. Carver worked in sales and had been a director of Mary Kay cosmetics. Always active in the community, Mrs. Carver had served as president of the Johnson School PTO, Floyd County Homemaker of the Year, and many years as a Sunday School teacher. She attended Salem Baptist in her last years.
Mrs. Carver had a gift of helping others and particularly the sick and elderly. She spent many years assisting older relatives and friends with needs as well as transporting others to medical appointments. Mrs. Carver loved children and people in general. Even in her final weeks at the hospital, she connected with others sharing with them her love for Jesus Christ. Mrs. Carver was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd M. Carver, who died February 10, 2004.

Mrs. Carver is survived by a daughter, Lawana Pitts and husband Hampton, and two sons, Chaplain Major General Douglas Carver (U.S. Army Ret.) and wife Sunny, and Randall Carver and wife Diane. Also surviving are her four granddaughters, Katie Pitts, Brooke Christmas and husband Dr. Britt Christmas, Laura Fulmer and husband Matt, and Amber Maxwell and husband Charles, Jr. Her seven great grandchildren, Morgan Maxwell, Grant Maxwell, Parker Maxwell, Aidan Christmas, Lorelai Christmas, Madeline Fulmer, and Douglas "Dougie" Fulmer were the delight of her life. Mrs. Carver is also survived by four siblings, Sandy Taylor, Charles Taylor, Lillian White, and Shelby Jean Orr. She is survived also by her best friend, Jan Culberson, with whom she shared much happiness in their church, small group, and travels. Sara Bland (husband Jerry Bland) who has been like a second daughter also survives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Evelyn Carver will be held at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel on Monday afternoon, January 27, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with Chaplain Major General (U.S. Army Ret.) Douglas Carver and Dr. William Roberts officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers, Jerry Bland, Dr. Britt Christmas, Matt Fulmer, Mike Kelly, Charles Maxwell, Jr., Morgan Maxwell, and Randall Orr.

Mrs. Carver will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 2 until 3:00 o'clock.
