Luther Newell Overby

Luther Newell Overby, age 97, of Lindale, Georgia died on Tuesday morning, January 11th, 2011 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Gordon County, Georgia, Mr. Overby was born on August 26th, 1913, the son of the late James A. and Margaret D. Overby. He had spent the great part of his life in Floyd County and was of the Church of God faith. Mr. Overby was a retired carpenter, worked 20 years at West Point Pepperell Mills and was owner/operator of Overby's Grocery in Lindale. Mr. Overby was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Overby in 2009 and 2 grandsons, Kenneth and Marvin Overby.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Annie Ruth Parson Overby to whom he married in 1935; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Harold Newton of Marietta, GA.; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond and Joan Overby of Dalton, GA. and Harold Overby of Rome. Several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Overby will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 15th, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Bert Brooks officiating with interment to follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Jeff Overby, Gregg Overby, Harold Newton, Scott Daws, Jack Harwell and Jackie Harwell.

Mr. Overby will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1 until 2:30 p.m.
