Lillian Ruth Russell

Lillian Ruth Russell, age 94, of the Horseleg Creek Road, Rome, GA, passed away at her home, Monday, January 16, 2012 with her family by her side.

She was born September 14, 1917 to the late Eugene Pat and Ada Frances Bell Griffin in Gadsden, Alabama. She was married on May 22, 1937 to George Nicholson (Jody) Russell in Floyd County Georgia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Jody Russell, September 24, 1975. Also preceding her in death were a son, James Allard Russell, May 9, 1990, a sister, Gaddis Griffin Smith, 2003, two brothers, William Thad Griffin, 1968 and D L Griffin, 1980.

Mrs. Russell was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. Mr. and Mrs. Russell were long time members of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star organizations where they served several times and Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron. She was a lifelong member of the Brethren Church on Horseleg Creek Road and in later years attended Wesley Chapel Church on Old Dalton Road. Mrs. Russell was known for her love of family. She was fond of saying, "I love each and every one of you dearly". We will miss her very much!

She is survived by a daughter, Frances Ruth Russell Shepard and her husband, Jimmy, of Rome; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George Eugene Russell of Rome, and David Roy Russell and his wife, Kathy West Russell, of Rome; a daughter-in-law Jewell Ann Green Russell, who is the widow of James Allard Russell. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Russell will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Max Carver and Mr. Randy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Russell will remain in Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. and include grandsons, Don Shepard, Jody Shepard, Tommy Russell, Benjamin Russell, Jonathan Russell, Neil Blalock, Eddie Payne, David Lamb, Steve Mull and Al Owen.
