Lillian Estelle Burton, of Rome, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2012, at the Summit of Rome.
Mrs. Burton was born in Cherokee County, AL, the daughter of the late Robert Downey and Nobie Downey Williams. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life. Mrs. Burton was a member of the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church and attended the Sherwood Forest Baptist Church. She was the owner and operator of the Clotheshorse of Rome from 1971 until her retirement. Mrs. Burton was a long time active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority of Rome. She loved spending time with her family and friends and prior to her illness was an avid golfer. Mrs. Burton was married on February 23, 1955, to Mr. Robert Henry Burton who preceded her in death in 1982. Also preceding her in death was her beloved son, Hamilton, on March 9, 2012.
Mrs. Burton is survived by a granddaughter, Laura Cook of Rome; a grandson, Mark, of Houston, TX; a brother, J. Hugh Williams of Rome. Eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, Lillian, also survive.
Services for Mrs. Burton will be held this (Friday) afternoon, December 28, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the family members delivering eulogies. A private interment will follow the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on this (Friday) afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. At other hours they will be at the residence of Laura and Todd Cook.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, Georgia 30346.
