Leroy Slater

Leroy Slater, age 79, of #18 Rollingwood Drive, West Rome, died Tuesday evening, September 11th, 2007, at a local hospital.
A native of Hamilton County, Tennessee, Mr. Salter was born on August 9th, 1928, the son of the late Roy Lee Slater and the late Rosa Mae Lowe Slater. He had been a resident of Rome since 1971 moving here from Rossville, GA. Mr. Slater was veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ in Rome. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Slater served as an insurance agent.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Cooley Slater to whom he was married on October 30th, 1954. 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Jason Beall of Rome and Jennifer and Todd Wood of Calhoun, Ga.; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jeannie Slater of Rome; 4 grandchildren, Bryce Beall, Brylee Kate Beall, Anna Grace Wood and Kaitlyn Wood, also survive as do a sister, Olene Hendricks of Ft. Oglethrope, Ga.; 1 brother, Leon Slater of Trenton, Ga. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Leroy Slater will be held on Friday morning, September 14th, 2007 at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Joey Haynes and Lucian Harris officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the family lot of Lakewood Memory Gardens South at Rossville, GA.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Steve Cooley, Harold Brock, Don Smith, Daryl Hendricks, Todd Wood and Jason Beall.
Mr. Slater will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 5 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
