Rome

Kevin Obrecht, 68, of Rome, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 18th, 2025.

He was born June 10, 1956 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Clyde and Ina Obrecht. Kevin developed a love of carpentry early on as he grew up building houses with his dad in his hometown of Missouri Valley, Iowa. After graduating High School class of ’74, he attended Iowa Western Community College where he earned an associate’s degree in Civil Engineering and began his career in construction after a short time as a surveyor

Kevin married his wife of 38 years, Bonnie Jean Ford, in June 1976. After several years of marriage, Kevin and Bonnie welcomed their children, Lane Kendall (1980) and Amanda Leigh (1983). Not long after, Kevin and the family relocated from western Iowa to Powder Springs, Georgia.

In 1988, Kevin started his own contracting company later to change to a specialty of commercial millwork. The company was incorporated and renamed to CSU Industries, Inc. in 2004. Through his hard work and relentless dedication, he built his company from the ground up to the success that it is today. Just as he had learned from his own father, his son Lane was by his side from the beginning. The two operated the business together for 25+ years until Kevin’s retirement in 2021. Kevin worked tirelessly at building his craft loving every minute of it. He instilled in his children, and all that came across him, a strong work ethic and a drive to succeed.

Outside of his business, Kevin enjoyed working on cars, going to stock car races and baseball games, flying his drones and kites, and spending time with his children and grandson, Jake. He loved to be out on the road, driving to job sites and seeing the country.

Kevin is survived by his son Lane (Katie) Obrecht and grandson Jake of Taylorsville, GA, daughter Amanda (Nat) Burroughs of Marietta, GA, his mother Ina Obrecht of Missouri Valley, IA, and brother Tim (Karen) Obrecht of Papillion, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, and his father Clyde Obrecht.

In keeping with his wishes, Kevin will be cremated at Salmon Funeral Home in Rome, Georgia on January 22, 2025. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date for his close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
