Kenneth H. Mize, age 86, of Rome, passed away on Monday evening, December 10th, 2012 at his residence.
A native of Haralson County, Georgia, Mr. Mize was born on January 23rd, 1926, the son of the late Hobart and Essie Goggins Mize. He was a graduate of Tallapoosa High School and was a veteran of World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Mize was a very active member and deacon of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church where he was a member of the Charles Harris Sunday School Class. Prior to his retirement in 1985, Mr. Mize was associated with General Electric of Rome for 33 years having retired as a foreman. Mr. Mize was preceded in death by a brother, Durward Mize. Mr. Mize was first married to Zera Wood Mize on August 7th, 1948 and she preceded him in death on June 8th, 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Corbin Mize to whom he was married on April 19th, 1997; a daughter, Carolyn Mize of Norfolk, Virginia; a son, Reverend Larry Mize and his wife, Pam of Snellville, GA; 2 grandchildren, Meredith Reuter and her husband, Zack of New Orleans, LA. and Christopher Mize and fianc, Mary Chase of Atlanta; 2 step-sons, Bradley Corbin and his wife, Susan of St. Charles, IL and Dennis Corbin and his wife Kathy of Armuchee; 5 step-grandchildren, Rachel Linderman and her husband Gary, Phillip Corbin, Matthew Corbin and his wife Elizabeth, Mark Corbin and Stephen Corbin; 2 step-great-grandchildren, James and Nathan Linderman; 3 sisters, Eris Brown of Buchanan, GA., Avis Robinson of Bowden, GA. and Glenda Ward and her husband Gary of Tallapoosa, GA.; a sister-in-law, Velma Mize of Tallapoosa. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Kenneth H. Mize will be held on Friday afternoon, December 14th, 2012, at 2 o'clock at the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with the Reverend Mac McCurry and the Reverend Clyde Hampton officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Mize will lie-in-state at the church on Friday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock.
Mr. Mize will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
Present and past deacons of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church of Rome and members of the Charles Harris Sunday School Class will serve as active and honorary pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Friday afternoon by 1:30.
