Joseph Edward Wilson, age 79, of #367 Lavender Road, NW, Rome (Little Texas Valley)died Tuesday evening, September 9th, 2008 at a local hospital.
A native of Emanuel County, Georgia, Mr. Wilson was born on August 24th, 1929, the son of the late Eddie G. and Bertie Jean McNeely Wilson. Mr. Wilson had been a resident of Rome since 1955 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Wilson served as Assistant Forester at Berry College for 36 years and was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Morgan Ensley in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Dolline Thompson Wilson to whom he was married on February 20th, 1954, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ray Parson of Blairsville, Ga. and Dianne and Mike Barton of Armuchee, Ga.; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Belinda Wilson of Armuchee; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Reba Avery of Adrian, Ga.; 1 brother, Jimmy Wilson of Kite, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Joseph Edward Wilson will be on Friday morning, September 12th, 2008 at 11 o'clock from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Edward E. Holsomback officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Research, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, New York, 10018.
Mr. Wilson will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
