Johnny Narvin Wilson, age 65, of Rome passed away on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2014, at a Rome hospital.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Johnny was born on February 16, 1949, the son of the late John Wilburn Wilson and the late Rebecca Wilson. He had spent his entire life in Rome and was a 1967 graduate of East Rome High School. Prior to becoming disabled, Johnny was associated with Atlanta Gas Light. He was a member of the Hill Crest Baptist Church, the Georgia Handicap Sportsman Association and the Roman Wheelchair Basket Club. Johnny loved to play Wheelchair basketball, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was instrumental in getting trout fishing in Cave Spring for kids and handicapped people.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Barbara Gail Vines Wilson, to whom he was married in 1970; two sisters, Myra W. (Jimmy) Reeves and Vicki W. Glover, all of Rome; a special niece, Shannon Lambert; a goddaughter, Melissa Guzman. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Johnny will lay in-state at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.

Funeral services for Johnny Wilson will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11:00 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Skates and Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 10:30 a.m. and include Bobby Lambert, Jeff Glover, Jimmy Reeves, Corry Williamson, Billy King, Larry King, Johnny King and Jacki Vines.
