John S. Goss, age 82, of Garden Lakes, Rome, Georgia died Tuesday evening, February 12th, 2008 at a Rome hospital.
A native of Chanute, Kansas, Mr. Goss was born on September 27th, 1925, the son of the late Kenneth L. and Lilah McIntyre Goss. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army and was a member of the West Rome United Methodist Church where he was a member of C.J. Raley Sunday School Class. Mr. Goss was a member and past Master of Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F&AM, the Low 12 Club, was a member and past High Priest of Rome Chapter 26 Royal Arch Masons, member and past Master of Rome Council #15 of Royal Arch Masons, member and past Commander of the Rome Commandry and a member of the Knights Templer of Georgia. Prior to his retiring, Mr. Goss was a retied retail salesman. Mr. Goss was preceded in death by 2 step-sons, John and Ronald Doolin.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Lonadier Goss to whom he was married on June 23rd, 1981, 2 daughters, Gloria and Sherry, 2 sons, Mike and Kenneth, 2 step-son, Hank Doolin of Acworth, GA. and Bill Doolin of Jasper, GA.; grandchildren , great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service for John S. Goss will be held on Saturday afternoon, February 16th, 2008 at 1 o'clock from the graveside of Rome Memorial Park South with Pastor Les Connell and the Rev. Bill Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park South with Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F&AM conducting Masonic graveside rites. There will be a called communication of Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F&AM on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. at the lodge for the purpose of attending funeral services for John S. Goss.
Members of Cherokee Masonic Lodge, members of the C.J. Raley Sunday School Class and all other Masons are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the graveside on Saturday afternoon at 12:45 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to West Rome United Methodist Church or to the C.J. Raley Sunday School Class at the West Rome United Church, #1003 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165.
The family will receive friends this (Friday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel. At other hours they will be at the residence.
