John Daniel Rev. Carter

March 31, 1915 — June 17, 2008

Rev. John D. Carter, age 93, of Rome/Armuchee, a mighty warrior, has fought and won his final battle, gaining the ultimate victory as he stepped into the arms of Jesus on June 17th, 2008.
A pastor and minister of the Gospel for over 70 years, he accepted his first pastoral assignment to the Bennettesville, S.C. Church of God in 1936. He also pastored churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and throughout Georgia. After retirement he joined the local congregation of the Armuchee Church of God, where for more than twenty-five years he could be found faithfully greeting members and visitors as they left each service. His desire was to make everyone feel welcome. He was very active in the construction of the Armuchee Church and was a Pastor's Council member and assistant teacher of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class. His quiet Christ-like spirit was a witness no matter where he was, even to his last days spent in the hospital. Only eternity will reveal the lives he touched. The legacy of this Godly man will be felt for generations to come.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his faithful and loving wife, Flossie Coulon Carter on April 7th, 1979. He was the last of seven siblings born to I.D. and Mamie Carter of Jesup, GA. Known to so many as "Little Granddaddy", he is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Dan and Barbara Carter of Armuchee, GA.; a daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Melvin Stepp of Armuchee, Ga.; four granddaughters and their spouses, Karen and Ricky Thompson of Adairsville, GA., Kristi and Ryan Lorren of Hiram, GA., Tonya and Al Austin of Rome, and Melanie and Keith Abney of Armuchee; nine great-grandchildren, Corey (Carrie), Matthew, Ben (Kilie) Thompson; Adam and Joseph Lorren; Jonathan and Stephanie Austin; Taylor and Cody Abney; three great-great-grandchildren, Katie, Noah and Brooklyn Thompson.
