John Patterson Banks, age 92 of Lindale, GA passed away on Monday morning, September 2, 2024, in Cedartown, Georgia. Born on June 26, 1932, in Hephzibah, Georgia, John led a life marked by service, dedication, and a love for his family.
After graduating high school, John enlisted in the United States Army, serving with distinction for 20 years. During his military tenure, he specialized as a Nuclear Maintenance Professional and proudly completed a stint in an Airborne unit. Mr. Banks was also entrusted with handling classified information. His commitment to his country was evident throughout his service.
Following his military career, John transitioned into a role with the United States Postal Service, where he worked diligently from 1970 until his retirement in 1996. His work ethic and dedication were hallmarks of his personality.
In addition to his professional achievements, John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed quail hunting with his beloved dog, Threetoe, and enjoyed fishing at local ponds and streams. These activities were a reflection of his appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life. John was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, where he demonstrated his commitment to fraternity and community service, earning his 50-year apron – a testament to his longstanding dedication.
He is survived by his sons, John Banks, Jr. of Calhoun, Bruce Banks and his wife Rhonda of LaFayette, Georgia; and Stephen Banks and his wife Sandra of Rome, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandson, Jeff Banks of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, as well as several additional other family members. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Bryant; his parents, Lansdell K. Banks and Anna Belle West Banks; his daughter, Patricia "Pat" Banks; several siblings; and a grandson, Paul Banks.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3, at Salmon Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
A graveside service for John Patterson Banks will be conducted on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 12:00 PM from Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, 2549 Shorter Ave, Rome, Georgia. Interment will follow the graveside service at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
John believed in giving back and the family would like to honor him by asking that in lieu of flowers you donate to one of John’s favorite charities; Network Day Services Center Inc at 402 W 10th St, Rome, GA 30165.
