Jewell Ramsey

Jewell Boggs Ramsey, age 90, of Rome passed away on Saturday night, November 27th, 2010 at Fifth Avenue HealthCare of Rome.

Mrs. Ramsey was born on May 2nd, 1920, the daughter of the late James Walter Boggs and the late Emma Ruth McCain Boggs. She was a homemaker and had been a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church since January 1st, 1943, where for many years she worked in the Preschool Nursery Department. For a period of time, Mrs. Ramsey was associated with Celanese and the Rome City Schools having worked at West Central Elementary, West Rome Junior and West Rome High Schools and having retired in 1988 from East Central Elementary School. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Boggs Byars in 2005, by a brother, Vaughn Boggs in 1958 and by a son-in-law, Robert T. "Bobby" Gilbert on March 2nd, 2000. Mrs. Ramsey was married on March 1st, 1941 to Herman H. Ramsey who preceded her in death in 1980.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy R. Gilbert of Rome; a son, Herman R. "Rick" Ramsey of Rome; a granddaughter, Emily Brownlow and her husband, Scott of Rome; a grandson, Brad Gilbert and his wife, Allison of Cartersville, GA.; 3 great-grandchildren, Neely and Sam Brownlow and Emma Grace Gilbert. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Jewell Boggs Ramsey will be held on Tuesday afternoon, November 30th, 2010 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac McCurry officiating. Private interment for the family will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Ramsey will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 o'clock.

The following will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon by 1:30 p.m. Mac Gilbert, Charles Brock, Bob Keown, Jerry Brownlow, Johnny Lane, Al Mitchell and Jimmy Lofton.
