Jewell Mozelle Pace

December 25, 1909 — June 27, 2008

Mrs. Jewell Mozelle Howren Pace, age 98 of #29 Doncaster Drive, Rome, Georgia, (Sherwood Forrest), passed away at her daughter's home on the Wayside Road Friday evening, June 27, 2008. She was 98 years of age, living through seventeen presidents and several wars. She saw the transition of the horse and buggy era to the cars and trucks of today. The history she stored with her numerous stories was enjoyed by all and could fill several books of interesting history to tell. From the simple writing of a letter to the computers and high technology of today, the planting of her gardens by the farmers Alamanac and telling of the signs of the body. The changes of electricity, radio, television and phone and the stories of history being made. The changes of Broad Street where the three rivers meet. Jewell could hold your attention telling of the changing times and generations. She loved talking of her Indian heritage.
Jewell Pace was born on December 25th, 1909 in Aragon, Georgia to the lat e Joe Howren and Millie B. (Belle) Whistenant Howren. She moved to Rome, Georgia where she spent her entire life. She married the late Russell Pace on October 16th, 1936 and he preceded her in death in January 1997. Her favorite times were fishing with her husband Russ and watching her children and grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed working with Russ in her flower garden and vegetable gardens. Jewell loved to dance and continued her steps of the Jitterbug or Charleston Dance until her 97th birthday. Jewell even gave in to riding the four wheeler with Stanley at 96. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Evelyn Murzurick of Detriot, Mich. And brother, Ed Howren of Rome, GA.
Jewell worked at the Lindale Manufacturing Co. in Lindale, Ga and later enjoyed rearing her 2 children, daughter, Mrs. Bobbie Jean Ingram and son, Gary Lee Pace, Sr. The love she had for her children and grandchildren was phenomenal. She instilled love, respect and the Christian way of life to all of them and taught them to live their life in that manner.
She was a charter member of Sherwood Forest Baptist Church where she was very active until ill health prevented her from attending. She was a member of the JOY Sunday School Class at Sherwood Forest and was a member of the Pocahontas Club. She enjoyed her fellowship there and with friends. Starting her worship there when only a small white building in a peach orchard. Russ installed the first heat the worship service had. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Bobbie Jean Ingram, who's husband Billy l. Ingram passed away on October 4th, 2000, and son, Gary Lee Pace, Sr. and wife, Sally all of Rome, GA.; 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Pamela Colleen Ingram-Ellison and husband, Stanley, Mrs. Frona Jewel Pace "Pebbles" Wheeler and husband, Todd and Mr. Gary Lee Pace, Jr. (Rock) and his wife, Trina, 4 great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Wheeler, Frona Mary Katherine Wheeler, Brody Garryn Pace and Branton Gage Pace all of Rome; sister-in-law, Mrs. Imogene Plye of Rome; several close nephews, nieces also survive among many friends.
She enjoyed her visits with her niece, Mrs. Mary and Chuck Adams, nephews Mr. Jack Howren and Mr. Slugger Howren and wife, Barbara and Mr. Buck Evans. Jewell enjoyed the communication, help and love with Mr. Matthew Ackley, Ms. Belinda Ackley and Mrs. Jeanette Nichols while helping with her care. And special friend, Mr. Earle Elliott bringing her favorite meals and surprises to her as well as her new friends from Hospice.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Mozelle Howren Pace will beheld on Monday afternoon, June 30th, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral with Dr. Ralph Jenkins and Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating with interment to follow in the family plot of East View Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Rome, Ga. Charter, # 3 Central Plaza, Rome, Ga. 30161 or to the Sherwood Forest Baptist Church, #1 Goodman Road, NE, Rome Ga. 30161.
Pallbearers will be the following, Mr. Stanley Ellison, Mr. Gary Lee Pace, Jr. (Rock), Mr. Jack (Gus) Howren, Mr. Buck Evans, Mr. James (Slugger) Howren, Mr. Walley Brown, Mr. Buddy Childers, Mr. Todd Wheeler, and Mr. Greg Brown. Honorary pallbearers include The Charter Members of Sherwood Forrest Baptist Church and members of Mrs. Jewell Pace's Sunday School Class.
The love of Mrs. Jewell Pace for her family and friends will be deeply missed. The last words Jewell communicated with when she couldn't talk anymore were written in her own handwriting and are as follows: "I am passing over the earth, after the earth I will greet everyone of you. I love you all."
Mrs. Pace will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) afternoon from 12:30 until the funeral hour. At other hours the family will be at their respective homes and at the home of the daughter, Bobbie Jean Ingram at # 362 Wayside Road, Rome.
